#WINTV HVR 850 REVIEW SOFTWARE#
It can it just needs the right software (not WinTV). My Sony laptop isn't really loaded it's just an FW-140 - I previously thought that my laptop couldn't handle this. Now, I can just plug the device in and run the Media Center - it even has a guide, kind of like cable (I haven't had that for even longer, so I'm easily satisfied - although if I try to use the guide for my brother's FIOS, I'm just. In the first configuration, I was displeased. Overall Review: As someone who really isn't into TV, I just wanted somewhat-convenient access to OTA signal (I don't own a TV). It gets kind of warm, but not nearly as hot as previously. Now I'm watching HD storm coverage perfectly! Sweet. I was pleasantly surprised at how small it was and how compact it looked. Compared to my old WinTV PVR-500, the HVR-2250 has been reduced in size and looks a lot smaller compared to the older dual tuner card. Using Windows 7 Media Center actually cured all the ills. Physically, the HVR-2250 is a nicely sized PCI-E x1 card that is made for both normal and low profile cases. It was unbearable to me, as I really don't care much for TV - I just wanted access.

Didn't do so well on scanning for OTA stations, a lot of lag. Color me plĬons: The software (WinTV) is, well. watching even HD stations - it looks sweet on my FW (no super specs - P8400, 3GB memory, integrated GMA 4500MHD, 1600 x 900 resolution screen).Īside from the fact that I can view the HD stations, there's also no lag. I downloaded a MCE kit from the Hauppauge website, plugged it in, followed the setup instructions, and VOILA. I recently upgraded my laptop to Windows 7, and now that I had the Media Center, I thought I'd give this a shot again. and really couldn't handle the DTV stations (this was prior to transition), even if not HD.Īny TV I've viewed has been online (Hulu, MSNBC) or DVDs - I'm not much of a TV person (I haven't owned one for a while), so essentially, I watched none OTA. I used it a couple of times, then put it away until recently. This item worked, sort of, but I was using with its WinTV software.
